Tyre Safety

The legal limit is 1.6mm of tread depth across the central ¾ of the tyre, all the way around. Anything less than this seriously compromises your safety and can earn you a fine of up to £2500 and 3 points on your Driving Licence, per tyre.

Powell’s ‘FastFit’ will check your tyre tread depth for free, and there’s no need to book. We will only advise you to change your tyre when you actually need to, which is generally around 2mm.

Wheel Alignment/Tracking

Wheel Alignment or Incorrect alignment can result in rapid irregular tyre wear and can even affect the handling and safety of the vehicle. Wheel alignment can be affected by driving against a kerb, hitting a pothole in the road or by excessive wear to steering or suspension components. Alignment of wheels and tyres to the specification required by your vehicle is an important way to guarantee a smooth ride and to getthe most out of your tyres.

Wheel alignment can be checked free of charge.

We pride ourselves in our outstanding knowledge and customer service, so whether you are after new Tyres or simply Tyre advice, we have fully trained experienced staff who are more than happy to help. With our handy location between Redruth and Camborne, why not pop in and experience our professional, honest service.

How to check your tyres

The first part of checking your tyres is to do an overall inspection, including inner and outer sidewalls. Lumps, bulges, cuts or cracks could be signs of deterioration, and these indicate that a tyre should be replaced. Inspect the depth of the treads and check all tyre pressures. Inspect the tyres for irregular wearing, and also examine the spare tyre. Be aware that a worn tyre reduces the impact of braking, steering and acceleration.
